George M. Verity Riverboat Museum - Keokuk, Iowa The paddle boat was built in Dubuque, Iowa by the U.S. Government in 1927. The George M. Verity was donated to the City of Keokuk in 1961 after being retired from service. It was built to revive river transportation and move barges from St Louis to St. Paul. This Italiante style home was built by James Harlan on the edge of the Iowa Wesleyan College campus and was completed in 1872. Harlan was the first Republican Senator from the State of Iowa and he became a close friend of Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln's son Robert married Harlan's daughter Mary.
